Chubs « Flows could not be directly associated with chub CPUE. Chub CPUE showed
a £ r
~gnificant correlation to flows in only one instance: it was negatively correlated (r=-0.998;
'.` p~.0381) with duration of flows at 50% of the peak for August samples. Regression analysis
a'
produced nerly identical results. Chub CPUE was positively correlated with CPUE for five other
species. These correlations were higly significant, but weak. They were as follows: Colorado
squawfish, r-0.09; bluehead sucker, r-0.21; red shiner, r-0.15; fathead minnow, r-0.23; and sand
shiner, r=0.08.
Colorado squawfish -- Correlation analyses revealed a strong negative correlation (r=-
0.70) between Colorado squawfish CPUE and duration of flows above 75% of the peak for the
preceding spring. This correlation was even stronger for August and September samples (x=-
0.999). Correlation also atyiorr5 existed between Colorado squawfish CPLTE and only three
other species. The correlation with chub CPUE was mentioned above. Correlations also existed
with bluehead sucker CPUE (r=0.09) and fathead minnow CPLTE (r=0.12).
Other fish species -- Speckled dace was the only other native species to show a
correlation between CPUE and flow pazameters. Like Colorado squawfish, this fish showed- a
strong negative ccosia 'on (r=-0.995) to duration of flows above 75% of the peak. Fathead
minnow and re shiner CPUE exhibitted negative correlations with both peak flow (r 0.73 and
r=-0.59, respectively) and duration of flow above 50% of the peak (x=-0.74 and r 0.59,
respectively). Black crappie CPUE was negatively correlated with duration of flow above 75% of
the Perak (x=-0.69). Sand shiner CPIJE in August and September was negatively correlated to
duration of flow the previous spring. Green sunfish CPUE showed a strong positive correlation
to flows at the time of sampling (r=0.998), but only in September.
27
