1
PREFACE
1
'
This report was prepared for the Recovery Program for the Endangered Fishes of the
Upper Colorado River Basin (Recovery Program) as part of a FY 1997 project entitled Ice
Formation, Breakup, and Movement in the Green River as a Function of Regulated Winter Flows
from Flaming Gorge Dam. The Recovery Program is a joint effort of the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Western Area Power Administration, the states of
Colorado, Utah, and Wyoming, upper basin water users, environmental organizations, and the
Colorado River Energy Distributor's Association. This project was completed through a
cooperative effort among the U.S. Army Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory,
Argonne National Laboratory, BIO/WEST, and Western Area Power Administration.
We thank Steve Petersburg of the National Park Service, Dinosaur National Monument
fvr granting a scientific research permit and Steven Brock and Daniel Schaad of the Ouray
National Wildlife Refuge for their cooperation with providing the appropriate permits and access
to roads and other areas at the refuge.
1

r~

1

iv
