Review of historic information and initiation of meetings with researchers to
facilitate integration of current will be initiated in FY 1994. Work on the final
report will begin as soon as data from the closing field season (1996) is
available.
4.0.2. RELATED RESEARCH ACTIVITIES
A number of other research activities addressing endangered fish species in the
Green River subbasin are being conducted during FY 1995 that are not directly funded by
the RIP. These additional studies have been funded outside the RIP by other agencies
which desire to supplement existing studies or acquire additional information for upcoming
issues. All studies listed below are being coordinated with the Five Year Flaming Gorge
Research Program. -
The National Park Service (NPS) initiated a sediment transport study in Lodore
Canyon in 1994.- Results from this study will be integrated with other studies in the
Research Program, particularly #37 and #40 (The Role of FGD in Habitat Change in the
Green River and An evaluation of the Restoration Potential of Green River Upstream of
Yampa River). NPS has also provided additional support to Study #34. Other ongoing or
soon to be completed NPS studies being conducted that directly benefit the Five Year
Flaming Gorge Research Program include the Synthesis of Winter Movement and Habitat
Studies for Colorado Squawfish and Razorback Sucker and the Lake Powell Inflow Study.
The Central Utah Water Conservancy District (CUWCD) has agreed to fund parts of
the Five Year Flaming Gorge Research Program in FY 95 that deal with the lower Green
River below the Duchesne River, specifically Study #38 (Investigations into Potential
Razorback and Colorado Squawfish Spawning in the Lower Green River) and a portion of
Study #39 (Reproduction and Recruitment of Gila sp. and Colorado Squawfish in the Middle
Green River). In addition, the CUWCD may fund several studies in the Duschene River in
FY 95 in preparation for Section 7 consultation on the Uinta Replacement Project. These
studies will result in added information for flow recommendations relating to the lower Green
River. They include a study to determine historic flow conditions in the Duchesne River, a
study to look a habitat changes in that river and a baseline survey of the system. The
entire package of studies funded by CUWCD is being coordinated with the Five Year
Flaming Gorge Research Program and will provide valuable data on the importance of the
Duchesne River to endangered fishes in the Green River.
5.0. BUDGET SUMMARY FOR THE FIVE YEAR FLAMING GORGE
RESEARCH PROGRAM IN FY 1995
The FY 1995 budget for the Five Year Flaming Gorge Five Year Research Plan is
presented in Table 3. Budgets are shown by study and cooperating entities. Total
expenditures not .including Service overhead costs for FY 1995 are projected at $500,000
and include funding from CUWCD at $37,000.
Flaming Gorge Research Program 31
