,..
CONCLUSIONS AND RECOMMENDATIONS
1993 Fisheries Investigations on the Duchesne River were hindered
by the inability of UDWR researchers to obtain access to Ute Tribal
Lands during the late summer and fall sampling periods. Much of
the river is accessible only through these tribal lands. The
conclusions and recommendations can therefore only be considered
preliminary.
The only documentation of the presence of Colorado squawfish or
razorback suckers in the Duchesne River since 1975 has been at or
very near the confluence with the Green River with the exception of
three angler reports of squawfish captures.
The capture of seven Colorado squawfish during this study has
demonstrated that these endangered fishes continue to occupy areas
of the Duchesne River considerably upstream from the confluence
during high spring flows. Five of seven squawfish were captured
above RM 4.5 -with RM 13.7 representing the most upstream capture
location. Recapture information on two squawfish captured at RM
10.5 and 13.7 also documents migration between the Duchesne and
Green Rivers.
The observation of two razorback suckers (RM 5.0 and 11.4) several
miles above the confluence serves to extend the known occupied
range for this species in the Duchesne Rivet. :;s neither of these
~2
