Trammel Netting and Seinincx
Trammel net sets were made in deep pool habitat in stratum B
between RM 6.3 and 8.4 September 14-16. Results are shown in Table
9. Only five species of fish were captured: carp, flannelmouth
sucker, channel catfish, northern pike, and smallmouth bass. The
three northern pike were the only representatives of this species
above stratum A and were smaller (380,381,403 mm) than those
observed in the lower Duchesne or adjacent Green River.
Limited seining of backwater, riffle, side-channel, and low
velocity flow-through habitats in stratum B resulted in
identification of 8 species of fish (Table 10). Four of these
species were documented only in fall seining and not with other
sampling methods. These were red shiner (Notropis lutrensis) sand
shiner (Notropis stramineus) fathead minnow (Pimephales promelas)
and black crappie.
All methods used to sample for fishes in the Duchesne River in 1993
resulted in capture of 22 species (7 native, 15 non-native).
Thirteen species were sampled only by electrofishing and four
species only by seining. Five species were sampled by multiple
sampling methods (Table 11).
28
