The Recovery Program is a joint effort of the U.S.
Fish and Wildlife Service, U.S. Bureau of Reclamation, Western Area Power Administration,
states of Colorado, Utah and Wyoming, Upper Basin water users, environmental organizations,
and the Colorado River Energy Distributors Association.
This report was researched and written by the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources
Native Aquatics section in fulfillment of research funded under the Recovery Implementation
Program for the Endangered Fish Species in the Upper Colorado River Basin (RIP). This study
was designed to 1) improve understanding of the basic life-history and population dynamics of
the Colorado pikeminnow and 2) determine how Colorado pikeminnow ecology is affected by
the river environment and its management. This research directly relates to several elements of
the RIP Recovery Action Plan (RAP) which mandate managers to "restore habitat and monitor
populations and habitat and conduct research to support recovery actions". The RIPRAP also
includes "refining the operation of Flaming Gorge Dam to enhance conditions for the endangered
fishes" as a recovery action specific to the Green River (US Fish and Wildlife Service 1995).
The Utah Department of Natural Resources receives federal aid and prohibits
discrimination on the basis of race, color, sex, age, national origin or handicap.
