1 2.0 STUDY AREA
' 2.1 Location
The study reach of the White River includes the entire reach that was designated as "critical
habitat" for the endangered fish species. Although portions of the White River are located in
other Colorado counties, the entire study reach lies in Rio Blanco County in northwestern
Colorado (see Figure 2).
2.2 Stud Reach
' The focus of this study on the White River is from downstream of Rio Blanco Lake (53.5 miles
upstream of the Utah stateline) to the stateline (15 miles downstream of Rangely). At the
I upstream limit of the study (Rio Blanco Lake) the stream elevation is approximately 5720 feet
and at the downstream limit of the study the stream elevation is approximately 5040 feet. The
study reach contains one USGS gage on the mainstem which is located 16.5 miles upstream of
Rangely, approximately in the middle of the reach. Information for this gage, and for another
gage on the White River at Meeker, about 20 miles above the upstream study limit, as well as
for two gages on tributary streams, is listed in Table 1.
