' 2.0 STUDY AREA
2.1 Location
r The study reach of the Yampa River includes the entire reach that was designated as "critical
habitat" for the endangered fish species. Although portions of the Yampa watershed are located
in other Colorado counties, and even in Wyoming, the entire study reach lies in Moffat County
in northwestern Colorado (see Figure 2).
' 2.2 Stud
The focus of this study on the Yampa River is from the downstream limit of the FEMA detailed
1 study for Craig, Colorado (57 miles upstream of the Deerlodge Park gage) downstream to the
upstream limit of Dinosaur National Monument (1 mile upstream of the Deerlodge Park gage).
At the upstream limit of the study (Craig) the stream elevation is approximately 6150 feet and
at the downstream limit of the study the stream elevation is approximately 5600 feet. The study
reach contains three USGS gages. One gage is located at the upstream limit of the study, one
at the downstream limit, and one is located approximately in the middle of the reach.
Information for those three gages, as well as for two gages on tributary streams, is listed in Table
1.
t TABLE 1
GAGE DATA

YAMPA RIVER (CRAIG TO DINOSAUR NATIONAL MONUMENT)
GAGE ID GAGE NAME RECORD YRS DRAINAGE AREA
LATITUDE, LONGITUDE (SQ; MI)
09247600 YAMPA RIVER 10 1750
402815, 1073649 BELOW CRAIG
09251000 YAMPA RIVER AT 78 3410
403010, 1080145 MAYBELL
09260050 YAMPA RIVER AT 10 7660
402708, 1083128 DEERLODGE
PARK
09249750 WILLIAMS FORK 10 419
402614, 1073850 RIVER
09260000 LITTLE SNAKE 74 3730
403250, 1082525 RIVER (LILLY)
