A small high-flow channel existed at the <br />upstream end of the side channel, where it was suspected that deposits of sand collected <br />on the declining limb of the runoff hydrograph. A working hypothesis (Wick 1997) <br />suggested that this stored sand was transported downstream to the spawning bar during <br />the rising limb of the hydrograph. <br />14
