Determining Agricultural Impacts
In the analysis, agriculture lands which forego irrigation are valued at the average productivity of lands in the
region. For the Navajo Indian Irrigation Project (NIIP) cropland on the Navajo Reservation, slightly different
cropping patterns were used.30
The cropping patterns detailed in Tables B-AP-1 through B-AP-4 were derived from Bliesner (1994) and NIIP
(1991) for the Navajo Nation, and New Mexico Agricultural Statistics, Colorado Agricultural Statistics, and the
1982 Census of Agriculture for the remaining tribal and non-tribal lands. Only crops constituting greater than two
percent of total area planted were included in the analysis.
