~.
,' Crystal Reservoir Te~perature Study
Page 7
Septe.ber 23, 1988
in both the regression and transport models. However, validation of
the model suggests a high degree of reliability and indicates areas
within the network to look for improvement; one such area is the
validation node on the Gunnison River Below the Gunnison Tunnel.
Finally, validation indicates the Temperature Model can be used as a
tool for evaluating instream temperatures as a function of water
management.
An appendix including all model input files and output tables is
available from the Regional Hydrologist, Region Six, Lakewood,
Colorado.
Recommendations
The following recommendations should be completed to improve model
prediction:
• Investigate water temperature as a function of flow at the
Gunnison Gage below the Gunnison Diversion. Improve the
existing database, if possible.
.' • Collect additional water temperature data immediately below
Crystal-Dam to develop an improved regression model of
temperature versus flow and climatic conditions.
• Compare observed temperatures collected at PHABSIM sites to
predicted temperatures.
• Determine if the bi-weekly time period used is necessary for
project impact assessment by fishery biologists. Can we go
back to a monthly time step?
