A ground-water reserve estimate was made for average potentiometric surface conditions and is a function of the volume of saturated aquifer and the specific yield of aquifer material. This calculation yields an average of 150,000 acre-ft of available stored water in the alluvial aquifer. Calculations of water available in the upper 500 ft of the Trou- blesome Formation were made by assuming an average thick- ness of water-bearing units equal to 11 percent (55 feet) and a specific yield of 0.2, which is typical of an aquifer similar to the water-bearing units of the Troublesome Formation. These num- bers yield an estimate of available ground water (stored water) of about 370,000 acre-ft within the Troublesome Formation aquifer in the upper portion of the Fraser River watershed. This reserve represents the amount of available water if the aquifer became unconfined. Information is not available to estimate the fraction of this water reserve that can be withdrawn without dewatering, or damaging, the aquifer.
