<br />volume of about 7 percent. A ground-water reserve estimate
<br />was made for average potentiometric surface conditions and is
<br />a function of the volume of saturated aquifer and the specific
<br />yield of aquifer material. This calculation yields an average of
<br />150,000 acre-ft of available stored water in the alluvial aquifer.
<br />Calculations of water available in the upper 500 ft of the Trou-
<br />blesome Formation were made by assuming an average thick-
<br />ness of water-bearing units equal to 11 percent (55 feet) and a
<br />specific yield of 0.2, which is typical of an aquifer similar to the
<br />water-bearing units of the Troublesome Formation. These num-
<br />bers yield an estimate of available ground water (stored water)
<br />of about 370,000 acre-ft within the Troublesome Formation
<br />aquifer in the upper portion of the Fraser River watershed. This
<br />reserve represents the amount of available water if the aquifer
<br />became unconfined. Information is not available to estimate the
<br />fraction of this water reserve that can be withdrawn without
<br />dewatering, or damaging, the aquifer.
