Brief history and present Through a public forum, preservation of the Eagle River was identified as the top
status community issue and, as a result, the county's elected officials identified a course
of action to create a management plan for the river. Eagle County requested a
consultative visit from the Rivers, Trails and Conservation Assistance Program
(RTCA) and as a result of the meeting the Eagle County Board of Commissioners
sponsored and applied for RTCA Program assistance in cooperation with the
watershed towns and regional agencies. The Eagle River project was approved
for FY94 funding. The planning participants have, to date, identified the purpose,
scope and issues and have moved into the citizen involvement and problem
solving phase of the planning effort. The next steps will define the
implementation and enforcement processes.
