Summer sampling in Deso/Gray (as well as anywhere in the basin) reveals dynamic population
densities i~luenced by spawning behavior. The abundance of Colorado squawfish during this
time of year is certainly inflated in Deso/Gray Canyon. An analysis of the July population
structure is subject to this t po ~ offer comparison of the condition from year
to year. (Figure 8). Juvenile squawfish (Age 4+) began showing up in Deso/Gray 1990, loch
coincides with collections of similar sized fish from the lower Green River (Appe Figure 4).
The only substantial collection of YOY squawfish occurred in August, 1993 when catch rates
exceeded .1/mZ (see Figwe 5).
,o
s
0
,o
s
0
,o
s
o.
DESOLATION CANYON: 1992-1996
COLORADO SQUAWFISH LENGTH FREQUENCY
,~ ,~,
,o
,~,
,~ ~ ~ .~
,~
s
0
,o
s
0
,~

Figure 8.- Length frequency analysis of Colorado squawfish collected in Deso/Gray
Canyons of the Green River, Ut; 1992-1996.
DRAFT 12
'~
