9
Larvae and young of the. year
In 1983 and 1984, three sets of samples were collected between the
first week of August and mid-September. In 1985, with flows lower than
the previous two years sampling began in mid-July and ended in mid-
- September. Throughout the study, sampling was conducted from the Boise
Creek confluence (RK 193) downstream to the Colorado stateline (RK
- 115.5).
Larvae were collected from negligible velocity habitats with a
3x1.2m drag seine (1.5mm mesh}. All individuals that could not be
positively identified in the field were preserved in 109'o formalin and
sent to the Larval Fish Laboratory at Colorado State University for
identification and enumeration.
Juveniles
In the present study, juvenile fish are described on the basis of
body size rather than life stage. For the collection of these
individuals, ten 0.8km sections (three above the reservoir basin, three
below the dam axis and four recovery stations located further
downstream) were sampled with 6mm mesh seines. Sites were sampled once
prior to impoundment (August, 1984) and twice following the completion
of Taylor Draw Dam (April and August, 1985), with an average of eight
seine hauls made at -each site. All individuals collected were
enumerated in 25mm length classes and released.
Adults and Sub-adults
