1 <br />CHAPTER 2 <br />Information Gathering <br />~' Duchesne River Basin USGS Flow Data <br />The USGS flow data was retrieved using Hydrosphere's database software. The <br />Hydrosphere product provided access to data contained in the USGS WATSTORE Daily <br />Values files for the state of Utah. The most recent version of Hydrosphere available was <br />used. It contained daily records through 1995 for most gauges. The daily data could then <br />be manipulated into monthly averages, monthly volumes, or any other desirable form. The <br />full data for the Randlett and Myton gauges on the Duchesne River are included in the <br />Appendices. <br />The USGS has had numerous problems maintaining the gauge in Randlett due to high <br />1 flows washing out the gauge several times, access restrictions to maintain the gauge, and <br />shifting of the river channel in that location. The USGS used the Myton Gauge to help <br />correct flow data at Randlett. The USGS considers the Randlett data at times poor, with <br />winter flow being the least reliable data. <br />USBR Pre-Development Flows <br />An analysis of the Duchesne River has been performed by the USBR to determine "Pre- <br />Development Flows" of the Colorado River Basin. These flows were developed by the <br />USBR for the whole Colorado River Basin in an attempt to develop virgin river flows. <br />USBR Pre-Development flows were obtained from the USBR and included monthly flow <br />data for the Duchesne River at Randlett for the period from 1906-1990. These flows, and <br />their development, are described in Chapter 5 of this report. The complete flows as <br />received from the USBR are included in the Appendices. <br /> USFWS Preliminary Flow Recommendations <br /> T'he USFWS preliminary flow recommendations are summarized in letters dated <br /> January 23,1995, and March 9,1995. These letters are included in the Appendices. In <br /> addition, the USFWS as part of this study effort, presented further data on the preliminary <br /> flow recommendations, including tables and charts on the recommendations, and a letter <br /> dated August 7,1996, that gives a chronology of the development of the USFWS <br /> preliminary flow recommendations. These are also included in the Appendices. <br />,~ <br /> Agency Operating Data <br /> Agency operation data were obtained from the Provo River Water Users Association <br /> (PRWUA), CUWCD, Moon Lake Water Users Association (MLWUA), and Strawberry <br /> Water Users Association (SWUA).
