MOVEMENT
Radiotelemetry
A total of 114 Colorado equawfish were implanted with radio transmitters
in April and May 1980-1985 in Green River Basin, and tracked by Vernal
personnel. One of these fish was a recapture, implanted by Bio/West Inc. in
1978. Seven of these ]14 fish were implanted in the White and Yampa rivers by
CDOW workers, and four wets implanted in the White Rivet in 1982 by UDWR
(Appendix 1). Four fish implanted in 1983 with 18 month transmitters were
tracked into 1984, and five implanted in 1984 were tracked into 1985. Two
fish implanted in 1983 were re-implanted in 1984 and tracked into 1965. This
generated three consecutive years of movement data on these 2 individuals, and
two years data on 9 fish, yielding movement data on an additive total of 123
fish.
F1eh movement patterns during spawning periods were classified as
migratory, non-migratory, or lost, depending on behavior, movement, and
contact duration. Fish were classified as non-migratory if distance moved was
leas than 32 km (20 mi) and there was no apparent movement pattern. However,
a fish was classified as migratory 1f it moved 32 km (20 mi) or more between
implanting and the peak of the spawning season. Some fish were classified as
partial migrants or partial non-migrants because they were not tracked all
season (May - September). Finally, fish that were infrequently contacted were
classified as lost. The following criteria were used to evaluate all fish
movement:
CRITERIA
Migratory Movement of 32 km or more between implanting end peak of
spawning season.
27
