OBJECTIVES <br />This report addresses results of Vernal Field Station activites during <br />the 1982-1984 CRFMP, a 1965 work statement and agreement between FWS and BR, <br />and other research and recovery activities. This includes development of <br />criteria for UCRBCC sensitive areas report (1982-1985) and investigations of <br />the distribution and life history requirements of razorback sucker (Xyrauchen <br />texanus) and humpback chub (Gila cypha) (1984-1986). Results of the latter <br />two studies are reported here for completeness of record. This report builds <br />upon a preliminary summary of 1982-1984 CRFMP activities (Archer et al. 1986). <br />DESCRIPTION OF STUDY AREA <br />The Colorado River Basin is separated (by 1928 compact agreements) into <br />upper and lower basins near Lee Ferry, Arizona. The upper basin is further <br />subdivided (Zorns et al. 1965) into three major river systems, or hydrologic <br />subbasins: Green, upper mainstem Colorado,and San Juan-Colorado (Figure 1). <br />The Green River Subbasin comprises about I16,D00 k® (45,000 mil) of the <br />284,000 km2 (109,500 mil) occupied by the upper Colorado River Basin. The <br />Green River is the largest tributary to the mainstem Colorado River (and lower <br />Colorado River Basin), and extends about 800 linear kilometers (500 mf) to its <br />source, the Wind River Range in Wyoming. <br />Study area includes Green and Yampa rivers (Figure 2). The Green River <br />study area extends from Echo Park in Dinosaur National Monument, (Rivet Mile <br />(RM) 345 (River Kilometer (RK) 352)) to the confluence of the Green and <br />Colorado rivers in Canyonlands National Park (RM 0 (RK 0)).
