Water-flow

~s _.~.~
,c~,t'a' are recorded by the U. S. Geological Survey at two places in
}ts section. Fi ure s 4 and 5
g graphically show the water-flow for
tote study period. The stream flow ranged from a low of 30 cubic
#eet per second (cfs) during the winter near the upper study limit
to nearly 5, 000 cfs near its mouth during ,the runoff. in June.._~The __
methyl-orange alkalinity and hydrogen ion (pH) values recorded
during. the study at stations A and B are presented in Figures 6 and
?; standard methods were used to determine the water chemistry.
Xt station A, the alkalinity ranged from a low of 64 ppm CaC03 to
a~high of 158 ppm; the range at station B was from 64 ppm to 13T
PP~T• The higher values. were usually encountered during the- fall,
:~. .._
when water flows were low. The pH values of the New Fork River.
varied from a low of 7.25 at station B to a high of 8.8 at station A.
The -New Fork in this section is characterized by long riffles
between the pools and only a few deep holes. The bottom is made
uP of medium-sized, rounded rubble and coarse gravel. There are
numerous back-waters and sloughs formed by old meanders of the
river..., Tributaries entering this section include Boulder Creek
and the East Fork River.
Section lI, of the upper Green River, covers about 16 miles

~~
_~
:;
-:
t~s
~.
2
.~

.}

from Sommers Bridge near Pinedale to the confluence of the New
