Extant populations exist in portions of the upper
Gila, Bill Williams, Verde, and Little Colorado drainages. Only the Gila River Basin
population has been well-studied, and decline has been noted in both the Salt and Gila
river segments of this population. They persist in Aravaipa Creek of the San Pedro River
drainage, Arizona, and also occur in Arizona's Verde River and several tributaries above
approximately 760 meters elevation. Roundtail chub have been collected from Chevelon
Creek in the Little Golorado River Basin, Arizona, but status and distribution of the
species is poorly described for the entire Little Colorado River Basin.
i~l,~er Colorado River Basin. Roundtail chubs continue to occupy a large portion
of their historic range in the UCRB (Figures 6 and 7). Extant populations are
documented in the: Escalante and Fremont rivers, Utah; portions of the middle and upper
San Juan River and several tributaries, Utah, New Mexico, and Colorado; Colorado River
from Moab, Utah, upstream to Silt, Colorado; Gunnison River, from the Colorado River
' confluence upstream to the confluence with the North Fork, and in the Uncompahgre
River, Colorado; Green River from the Colorado River confluence upstream to Sand
Wash, Utah, and from Jensen, Utah, to Echo Park, Colorado; White River from the Green
River confluence upstream to near Meeker, Colorado; Yampa River from the confluence
1 with the Green River upstream to near Hayden, Colorado; Little Snake River (Yampa
River Basin); Green River and several tributaries above Flaming Gorge Reservoir,
' Wyoming; and, several headwater lakes in the upper Green River Basin, Wyoming.

1

1
Final Report September 2~2
27
fl
