Scope of Study <br />Funda'entally, Seclamation's s~ajot objective in conducting this <br />study is not impact analysis associated with eater development but <br />rather to determine the presence of existing rare or endangered fish <br />species and the potential for recovering these species given current <br />habitat co~itions. This fisheries study on the San Jean River has <br />been a~cooperative effort between the Bureau of Reclaaation, the Fish <br />and Wildlife Service, the Qtah Division of Wildlife Sesources and the <br />New ?lexico Game and Fish Department. The following study objectives <br />for this study were jointly arrived at by representatives of these <br />agencies: <br />1) Determine the presence and relative abundance of Colorado <br />squawfish, humpback chub, bonytail chub and razorback sucker in the San <br />Juan River between Farrington, New Heaico, and the confluence with Lake <br />Powell. <br />2) Describe the general habitat characteristics of the San Juan <br />River and assess the suitability of this habitat for supporting these <br />s <br />rare fish. <br />3) Forsulate recommendations to assist with future recovery or <br />management activities of rare fish in the San Juan River. <br />4) Describe the fish community of the San Juan River. <br />3 <br />
