•
1.07 The proposed Sandstone project would invoive about 4,350
acres of federal and private lands. Rangelands and free-flowing
.streams would be converted to a reservoir with adjacent
recreation and wildlife management lands. Twelve miles of stream
fishery would be replaced by a reservoir fishery. Approximately
960 acres of a variety of habitat types would be inundated by the
proposed reservoir. About 815 acres of riparian cottonwood
woodland, willow and alder shrublands and wet meadow would be
inundated including 22 acres of Corps of Engineers jurisdictional
wetlands. Portions of big game migration routes, and summer and
winter/yearlong ranges would be affected including approximately
700 acres of critical elk winter/yearlong range. No threatened
or endangered species are expected to be affected by the proposed
Sandstone project.
1.08 The proposer! reservoir would directly impact. 9 of 12
cultural resource sites located in the project area, seven of
which are eligible for inclusion on the National- Register of
Historic Places. The other 3 sites could be exposed to secondary
impacts by the project due to increased accessibility and
visibility.
1.09 The proposed Upper Savery Dam and Reservoir would be
located on Savery Creek approximately 15.0 miles north of Savery,
Wyoming. The reservoir would cover 940 acres and .have a total
capacity of 40,000 acre-feet. This alternative was eliminated
from further consideration because of poor dam foundation
conditions, high construction costs, and annual water yields well
below desired levels.
1.10 The proposed Pot Hook Dam and Reservoir would be located in
Colorado on Slater Creek approximately 1.O mile south of the
• Colorado-Wyoming state li~ie. The reservoir would-have a surface
1-3
