Some of these interesting wetlands features are depicted in Exhibit C including the river level,
the historical meander thalwegs, and the return flow drainage way.
Photos 2-5 show the wetlands areas in August. Photo 2 shows the bluff line and the
old meander bend. Vegetation lines help to outline some historic positions of the meander
bend migration across the floodplain. Photos 3 (upstream) and 5 ,(downstream) give an
indication of the extent of water surface. Other meander bend outlines can be see in Photos
4 and S as indicated by the ponded water and the vegetation. Photo 4 shows the dense
wetlands vegetation in the foreground.
The wetland water surface and ponded water area had declined during the period from
June to August. Photos 6 and 7 were taken in early June and show a larger area of inundation.
Compare these photos with the August Photos 3 and 5. It was also observed in the field that
the wetlands water surface area was greater in April than in June, indicating a higher wetlands
water surface elevation. In August the surveyed water surface elevations in the different
wetland ponds was slightly variable depending on the vicinity of the ponded water to the
seepage source on the bluff.
16
