Forecast of Stream Flow <br />The April 1, 1998 forecast of inflow to Lake Powell by the National <br />Weather Service, Department of Commerce, for April-July was estimated to be <br />6,800,000 acre-feet' . The, unregulated inflow to Lake Powell for the period <br />April-July 1998 amounted to 8,625,000 acre-feet , which was about 1 12 percent <br />of the 30-year (1961-1990) average flow. <br />During the April-July 1998 period, changes in storage in Colorado River <br />Storage Project reservoirs including Lake Powell resulted in an overall increase of <br />4,773,000 acre-feet, with 302,000 acre-feet of evaporation and a 202,000 acre-feet <br />increase in bank storage 3 . <br />Actual regulated inflow to Lake Powell for the period April-July 1998 was <br />7,761,000 acre-feet. <br />For the period October 1, 1997 through September 30, 1998, the change <br />in reservoir storage, excluding bank storage anal evaporation, at selected reservoirs <br />above Lake Powell was as follows: <br />• Fontenelle decreased 20,100 acre-feet. <br />• Flaming Gorge decreased 17,500 acre-feet. <br />• Taylor Park decreased 8,600 acre-feet. <br />• Blue Mesa decreased 136,500 acre-feet. <br />• Morrow Point increased 4,200 acre-feet. <br />• Crystal increased 600 acre-feet. <br />• Navajo decreased 163,600 acre-feet. <br />The virgin flow4 of the Colorado River at Lee FerryS for the 1998 water <br />year amounted to 17,249,000 acre-feets . <br />' Including water to be stored upstream in other Colorado River Storage Project Reservoirs. <br />z Adjusted for upstream regulation and depletions. <br />' Includes Flaming Gorge Reservoir on the Green River. <br />° Virgin flow is the estimated flow of the stream if it were in its natural state and unaffected by the <br />activities of man. <br />e Lee Ferry, Arizona is the division point between the upper and lower basins of the Colorado River <br />as defined in the Colorado River Compact.
