C7
•
INTRODUCTION
This collection of Lake Management Plans (LMP'S) for the Colorado Division
of Wildlife's (CDOW) Northwest Region has been prepared in accordance with the
• interim Procedures for Stocking Nonnative Fish Soecies in the Upoer Colorado River
Basin (March 10. 1994) (Appendix A). As described in the Procedures, stocking of
nonnative fish species not included in routine stocking as described in Table 1 requires
~ a case-by-case proposal.
Such proposals should include the following information:
1. The purpose and location of the proposed stocking.
2. The species, numbers, and rationale foP selecting the species.
• 3. The potential for escapement, the potential for survival in critical habitat
if escapement occurs, and control measures which could be implemented
to reduce the risk of escapement.
4. The potential for impact to threatened and endangered species and the
specific measures available to remedy any impacts which may occur
including their feasibility and likelihood of success.
• 5. A plan for monitoring the effects of the stocking on the endangered
Colorado River fishes.
For each proposed water, this information is provided in this report. The eleven
~ waters described in this document have been included in one report to facilitate the
review process, to avoid redundant report sections, and to provide reviewers with a
broader perspective of the CDOW's plans for management of nonnative warmwater
~ fish species in the Northwest Region (Figure 1.)
Management Rationale/Justification
Justification for stocking these lakes is driven by three principle reasons: (1)
•
the Colorado Division of Wildlife's Long Range Plan; (2) the warmwater habitat
•
