<br />18 <br />will protect the lake from communicating with the river <br />except during very high and infrequent runoff events. <br /> <br />V. Impact to endangered species <br />A. There is no impact anticipated to endangered species that would effect <br />recovery because: <br />~ 1. Connected Lake fish would seldom come into contact with endangered <br />fish because the lake would only communicate with the river at greater <br />than 40 year flood events. <br />2. Largemouth bass and bluegill survive only briefly in the river <br />environment. <br />~ 3. Channel catfish escapement from Connected Lake would not <br />measurably change the river catfish population nor would they increase <br />possible impacts to endangered fishes. <br />4. The closest major backwaters where escaped largemouth bass and <br />bluegill could find a more hospitable riverine environment and impact <br />endangered fishes are over a mile downstream from Connected Lakes. <br />• <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
