There is no impact anticipated from largemouth bass and b(uegill <br />because these species do not survive in the river, and from channel <br />~ catfish because the small numbers that could escape from Connected <br />Lake are insignificant compared to the large, river population, The <br />closest major backwaters where escaped largemouth bass and bluegil! <br />could find a more hospitable riverine environment and impact <br />endangered fishes are over a mile downstream. <br />~ 2. Concern exists that if hatchery reared Colorado squawfish escape into <br />the river system they could interfere with spawning activities of the <br />wild squawfish. <br />B. Measures to remedy impact, including feasibility -The lake will be <br />~ intensively sampled again and any squawfish captured will be removed to <br />Horsethief State Wildlife Area refuge ponds. If recommended by the <br />Recovery Implementation Program and approved by the Fish and Wildlife <br />Service, the lake could then be chemically treated. <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />• <br />
