i
SUMMARY
Three thousand (3,000) Age 1 channel catfish were stocked into
Kenney Reservoir in September 1992. In 1993 a two year study was
undertaken to evaluate the potential of channel. catfish to create
a sportfishery in this reservoir. The project area for the study
was Kenney Reservoir and two five mile reaches of the White River
from the reservoir downstream to the Utah border.
Kenney Reservoir was sampled in July and August using
electrofishing, gill nets, trammel nets, baited hoop nets, and
trotlines. The White River was sampled in July and September using
electrofishing and baited hoop nets. The total sampling effort for
the reservoir and river was 2,171 hours.
The total catch of channel catfish in the reservoir was 107, of
which 97 were marked fish from the 1992 plant and 10 were of wild
origin. A total of 156 channel catfish were sampled from the White
River below the reservoir. None of these catfish were marked fish
from the 1992 plant.
Sampling will continue in 1994 using the same basic plan that was
used in 1993.
