Above Grand Canyon, be{ow Glen Canyon Dam and in Lake Powell,
a few adult squawfish have been taken each year since 1965, sporadically
and usually by anglers. A total of five has been received by the Arizona
State University Collection of Fishes, and none exceeded 1.5 kg in weight.
Koster (1960) reported P. lucius from the San Juan River, New Mexico,
prior to closure of Navajo Reservoir. It is not known if it still persists in
that area, but squawfish moved into the San Juan arm of Lake Powell, in
presumed breeding aggregations, each spring just after closure of Glen
Canyon Dam (Joseph Stone, pers. comm. 1970).
