Aims
&. Scope
las: a quarterly journal, offers a multi-disciplinary and objective
forum for research and professional literature addressing the issues of
instream flow in North America. A focus on the science, environmental policy,
and law of instream flow is useful because of the many and growing controversies
in water management that relate to streamflow. Professionals in field biology,
environmental policy, law, hydrology, civil engineering, and economics have
expressed a strong interest in a journal that aggregates a wide range of
information for the instream flow specialist.
The journal provides timely and practical information for scientists and
managers facing frustrating political and technical problems regarding multi-
agency actions, water resource planning, riparian corridor management, and
permits and licenses.
To address the questions of assessing instream flow needs, developing instream
flow policies, and resolving instream flow conflicts, authors are invited to submit
original research and scholarly review articles covering such topics as:
• Population responses to changes in habitat • Validation studies of instream flow
methods • Comparative studies on instream flow programs • Public trust doctrine
and legal analysis* Economic studies of habitat and recreation benefits- Case
studies on using law and technology • Negotiation and expert testimony
guidelines • Fish and benthic habitat needs • Hydroelectric power requirements
• Riparian corridor management • Fresh water inflow to estuaries.
COPYRIGHT «% 1990 S.E.L. & Associates.
