I ENVIRONMENTAL
NEPA compliance in connection with the
Colorado River Storage Project (CRSP) in
FY 86 consisted of the preparation of 48
Categorical Exclusion Checklists, 2 Envi-
ronmental Assessments, 2 Findings of No
Significant Impact, and 1 Draft Supple-
ment to a Final Environmental Impact
Statement.
Compliance with the Clear Water Act
included obtaining seven Section 404 and
three Section 402 Permits for various
construction projects on the CRSP.
In connection with hazardous waste regu-
lations, plans have been made to remove
all polychlorinated biphenyl contaminated
electrical equipment from CRSP facilities
during the next 2 years.
Reclamation and Fish and Wildlife
Service are continuing their research on
the endangered fishes of the Green and
Colorado Rivers. The Service and Recla-
mation entered into agreements in 1986
to study the operational impacts of
Flaming Gorge Dam on the endangered
fish. An integrated report and Biological
Opinion are scheduled to be completed in
May 1989.
Studies that will aid in evaluating possible
operational impacts to all aquatic
resources are also being conducted on
the trout tailwater fishery below Flaming
Gorge Dam. Additional endangered fish
studies are being conducted on the
Colorado River near Grand Junction, and
at the inflow area to Lake Powell where
populations of Colorado squawfish and
humpback chub have been located.
Studies are being conducted in the Grand
Canyon to determine the impacts of the
operation of Glen Canyon Dam. These
studies are scheduled to be completed
with a final report in late 1987 or early
1988.
f+{ J t
t
-.w
t
l
A 33-foot raft negotiates Hermit Creek Rapid at Mile 94 in the Grand Canyon.
10
