The river, <br /> however, carries about 9 million tons <br /> of salt annually past Hoover Dam. <br /> This salt load causes millions of <br /> dollars in damages to agriculture and <br /> cities in the lower Basin States. <br /> Management of the quality of wafter <br /> in the Colorado is being pursued <br /> jointly by state and Federal agencies <br /> to protect this endangered water <br /> resource.
