<br />. <br /> <br />2.1 <br /> <br />INTRODUCI10N <br /> <br />The objective of this study task was to review all available literature pertinent to fish <br />culture, propagation techniques, and hatchery design for the four endangered fish species; <br />Colorado squawfish (Ptychocheilus~), humpback chub (Qila~), bonytail chub (Gila <br />ele~ans), and razorback sucker (Xyrauchen texanus). This task was conducted by <br />Bio /W est, Inc. <br /> <br />2.1.1. Methodolol.,V <br /> <br />literature pertinent to the culture of the endangered fish was assimilated and reviewed <br />using the following five approaches: <br /> <br /> 1. <br /> 2. <br /> 3. <br /> 4. <br />. 5. <br /> <br />research personal and public sources; <br />acquire information from local, State, and Federal agencies; <br />conduct a field visit to Dexter National Fish Hatchery (NFH) (later renamed the <br />Dexter National Fish Hatchery and Technology Center); <br />visit and interview Propagation Specialists for the Colorado Division of Wildlife <br />(CDOW) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS); and <br />conduct telephone interviews with key contacts. <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />The following is a description of each approach. <br /> <br />Research Personal and Public Sources <br /> <br />Bio/West personnel have been involved in work with the Colorado River endangered fish <br />species for over 20 years. A library maintained at the Logan, Utah office, as well as <br />personal contacts were valuable sources of information. The Utah State University Merrill <br />library and the College of Natural Resources library were also researched. This search <br />accounted for most of the library assimilated, which contains 100 literature sources pertinent <br />to the culture of the Colorado River endangered fish. <br /> <br />2.1 - 1 <br />
