Appendix C
PROPOSAL OF THE COLORADO RIVER FISH & WILDLIFE COUNCIL
FOR DINGELL-JOHNSON ADMINISTRATIVE FUNDS
TITLE: Cooperative Interstate Fishery and Aquatic Resource
Management in the Colorado River Basin
a
4
ABSTRACT: .
The Colorado River Fish & Wildlife Council (CRFWC) resulted from a compact
initiated some thirty years ago by the seven state Natural Resource agencies
located on the Colorado River Drainage. The CRFWC has served as an excellent
vehicle for coordination, integration and regulation of interstate fish and
wildlife activities and to promote regional fisheries conservation interests ,
in a regional and national forum. Although the CRFWC is providing much of its
base programs in the management and protection of sport and native fish and
habitat, as activities affecting fish and fisheries have proliferated
throughout the system, the CRFWC has not been able to maintain continuity and
effectiveness with current levels of support from its members. This proposal
requests funding through Dingell-Johnson Administrative Funds to assist the
CRFWC in its interstate management, mitigative, enhancement and restorative
efforts. This proposal provides support for an executive secretary, funding
for day-to-day administration, publications and travel support for officers
and chairmen of CRFWC.
A total of $46,900 in federal assistance is requested to support the
interstate compact and the fishery and aquatic resources. These monies will
allow the council to effectively interact internally and to disseminate
throughout the system valuable support and effort necessary to aid in the
management of interjurisdictional fisheries and species. Acceptance of this
proposal will help ensure that fish and fisheries be given more consideration
throughout the Western United States and receive more extensive review and
analysis within all sectors of people doing business with the Colorado River
and its tributaries.
41
41
4
41
