other governmental agencies and private organizations. In .
September, the Department will convene a conference in Denver to
hear directly from representatives of federal agencies, other
states, local governments, and others about their wetlands
initiatives, successful and otherwise. Based upon the
suggestions received in response to the draft report and the
conference, the Department of Natural Resources will evaluate a
range of options in terms of their likely result, cost, etc.
This evaluation will be documented in a report which we will
distribute to the Colorado General Assembly, state and local
governments, many non-governmental organizations, and the general
public.
As indicated above, we are particularly interested in
opportunities to maintain and enhance a balanced approach to
wetlands protection. At that time, the Department of Natural
Resources will seek assistance in identifying the scope of
options which deserve to be explored (e.g., knowledge gaps,
incentive opportunities, land acquisition priorities, regulatory
programs, etc.). If you have suggestions or comments that you
