The
project will look at current farming
practices to determine if they are
sustainable - that is, economically viable
and environmentally sound.

Several test plots will be selected with
cooperating farmers, and will be
extensively . monitored. Data will be
collected on farming practices, chemical
application, existing water quality of
surface and groundwater used on the plots,
economic return of crops grown, and
potential methods for improvement.
Numerous agencies will be involved

including Central, West Greeley Soil
Conservation Service, Northern Colorado
Water Conservancy District, Agricultural
Research Service (ARS), Bureau of
Reclamation, Colorado State University,
Colorado Deparunent of Health, Colorado
Soil Conservation Board, and the U.S.'
Geological Survey.
Fred EchoHawk of Louisville has been

hired by Central to serve as Project
Manager. He has extensive experience
dealing with federal agencies on
agricultural projects, and wilI be a key
person in the Sustainable Agriculture
Project.
To learn more about this new research
effort, please call one of Central's board
members or contact the office in Greeley.
