the front of the brooms is optional. The protection arm is to keep fish
from being injured on the sharp broom corners. The cleaner frame should
be 3 or 4 inches shorter than the pond walls to assure ease of movement
down the pond.
The rubber wings placed at a 100 angle makes up the difference in frame
width to the walls, and stops all water flow around the sides of the cleaner.
Metal shoes mounted on the bottom of the cleaner face frame will allow
water flow under the cleaner to move debris in front of the cleaner and allow
fish to have some fresh water during cleaning. Shoes should be bolted for
ease of replacement. Different thickness of shoes can be used to fit your
water flow needs.
The pipe rollers mounted on the ends of the cleaner face frame and the
shoes mounted on the ends of the protector arms assure the cleaner of
straight operation in the pond. The rollers and shoes keep the cleaner from
lodging in slots in the pond walls.
The following pages have illustrations to help with construction of your
cleaner.

CONCLUSIONS

These pond cleaners are very efficient and easy to construct. The clean-
ers can easily be adapted to any raceway or trough with relatively smooth
bottoms and sides. Experience has shown that this method of cleaning is
easier on the fish when used properly.

92
