<br />. . <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />a <br /> <br />July 19, 1985 <br />LEA <br /> <br />Rio Grande, Colorado, Ti;uana Treatv, 1944 <br /> <br />The following summary of the Rio Grande, Colorado, Tijuana <br />Treaty of 1944 - the so-called MexicanTreaty- has been prepared <br />only to indicate the effects of the Treaty on the use of the waters <br />of the Colorado River and specifically as it might relate to the <br />endangered fishes in the river system. It is not a complete summary, <br />even of the Colorado River portion. <br /> <br />The part of the Treaty of interest here deals with allocation <br />of water in the Colorado River System between Mexico and the United <br />States. It guarantees to Mexico the delivery of 1,500,000 acre-feet <br />of water annually, to be delivered in accordance with certain <br />provisions. In time of severe drought or serious accident, any <br />reduction in this delivery will be in the same proportion as consumptive <br />uses are reduced in the United States. <br /> <br />\ <br />
