Pioneer Environmental Services, Inc.

1993-Present Graduate Research Assistant for Utah Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research
Unit. Currently developing a habitat assessment model for the Endangered
Newfoundland marten. The project focus is on an unconventional optimization
model that treats marten habitat selection as a dynamic combinatorial
optimization problem. Field efforts include an expansive survey matching small
mammal prey base and forest communities, an assessment of the thermal
environmental using standard operative temperature devices and laboratory
trials, and an extensive survey of marten resting sites and territories for testing
the model.

1993 Senior Laboratory Technician for Department of Fisheries and Wildlife, University
of Minnesota. Incorporated standards and guidelines described in the Superior
National Forest's Land and Resource Management Plan into the SNAP II
decision making environment. Efforts included encoding forest growth models,
spatially explicit forest economics models, and models for 39 indicator species.
Wrote a new user's guide for SNAP and an additional document describing the
tasks needed to mesh conventional forest management on the Superior into an
automated environment.

1992 Senior Laboratory Technician. Developed an integrated management plan for
the BS Hill Opportunity Area, a 33,000 acre portion of the Tofte Ranger District,
Superior National Forest, as an independent contractor associated with the
University of Minnesota. Project involved assembling resource specialists
representing several disciplines and agencies, as well as interested public, into a
cohesive team.

1991-1992 Senior Laboratory Technician. Developed a management plan for the smaller
Coffee Creek Opportunity Area, a 14,000 acre portion of the Tofte Ranger
District, Superior National Forest, as an independent contractor associated with
the University of Minnesota. The project was similar in nature to the BS Hill
Opportunity Area.
