Results of this and other investigations indicate several factors
probably influence the size of the endangered fish populations of the upper
Colorado River basin. Ho~ever, the relative importance of these factors
undoubtedly differs among rivers and river reaches. For example, in reaches
immediately do~nstream from large dams the effects of reduced temperatures are
especially important ~hereas else~here introduced fishes or the scarcity of
important habitats might have major effects. Further investigation is
necessary to develop our understanding of those factors that limit the
endangered fishes of the upper basin and ho~ the effects of these factors
might be reduced or eliminated.
