28

water quality
Measurements ot water quality were made at tour locations
on the Green River and one station on the Yampa River during the
SWIID81" and tall ot 1962.

Water temperature
Temperature ranges on the Green River at Gates ot Lodore
during July, and at Echo Park during August were identical. The
average temperature at Echo Park was one degree tdgher (Table 4).
The higher water temperatures found at Echo Park were probably due to
the tact that measurements were made at this study area when stream-
now was reduced.
The range and average uater temperature at Island Park
were considerably lower than at the other stations. This would be
expected since these measurements were made during late September.
In Echo Park the Yampa River was found to have higher llater
tempera.tures than were found in the Green Itlver. The studies of Bailey
ani Alberti (1952) confirm this observation in temperature difference.
Their report indicates that Lily Park on the Yampa River was the zone
of highest average temperature for that river. This influence extended
downstream to the confluence with the Green River.

Turbidity
As measured by depths of vi sibili ty, turbidity was found to
vary sreaUy. During a period of one '\-leek, depth of visibility on the
Green River ranged trom -~ to 9~ inohes at Island Park (Table 4). The
t-inoh determination was made shorUy after an upstream cloud'blrst.
