The field crew

consisted ot Dr. Hagen and 14 fisheries students from Colorado state
University. For aonvienience in sampling, the men were divided into

two work orews.

Crew number one sampled stream seotions at Split l-lountain
Campground, Island Park, Echo Park, and CasUe Park. This crew was
equipped with two tied bag seines, a stream shooker, a square foot
bottom-sampler, jars, and formalin. Seining methods were disoarded

because the stream shooker proved muoh more efficient in capturing fish.

Crew number two oolleoted at the Echo Park and Gates of Lodore

.~ areas. They used several gill nets, a tied bag seine, rotenone,

and a square foot bottom-sampler. A duplioation of effort at the Echo
Park station was intended because of its stratogio looation at the
oonfluenoe of the Green and Yampa rivers.

Laboratory prooedures

In the laboratory, fish were identified and stomaoh oontents

were analyzed. The digestive traot :f'rom the esophagus to the anal open-

ing was removed and the oontents identified. Lengths were recorded

betore stomaohs were removed. Bottom organisms were identit1.ed as

precisely as possible (Pennak, 1953) by using a binooular diE seoting

microsoope.
