.. Monitor for successful bonytail reproduction. As with monitoring of juvenile and adult
fish, existing monitoring programs can be used to assess reproductive success. The most
likely candidate is the annual young-of-year ISMP sampling in the Colorado and Green
rivers. Additional light trapping or larval drift sampling during suspected spawning
periods may also be needed.

.. If there is further investigation of flow training. it should occur at Wahweap State fish
Hatchery. Although a few specific physiological responses have been examined in a
laboratory setting, it is possible that other factors such as feeding behavior or habitat
selection patterns may also play prominent roles in improving post-stocking survivorship.
Bonytail flow trained in situ at the hatchery could be released and followed through our
monitoring.

UNCERTAINTIES

@ What are the long and short-term survival rates of stocked bonytail?
@ What is the relationship between size and survivorship in the wild?
@ Do reaches in which fish are stocked contain adequate habitat for spawning and rearing of
independent sub-populations?
@ Can flow training provide measurable changes in condition and survivorship?

20
