GTAXCOM: Because the name NOTROPIS TOPEKA is a junior synonym of
MONIANA TRISTIS Girard, 1856, Mayden and Gilbert (1989)
proposed that the specific name TOPEKA should be replaced by
the name TRITIS. This suggestion was adopted by Page and
Burr (1991). However, the name TRISTIS has been unused since
its proposal. A petition has been submitted to the ICZN to
conserve the famliar name TOPEKA. Pending the ICZN decision,
the 1991 AFS checklist (Robins et al. 1991) retained the
name as N. TOPEKA. ^NOTROPIS TOPEKA evidently is related to
N. STRAMINEUS and is a member of the N. PROCNE species-group
(genetic data of Schmidt and Gold, Copeia 1995:1991-204) .
