<br />5 <br /> <br />Job 7. Title: Razorback sucker inventory above Palisade <br /> <br />Sampling was conducted from the Government Highline Diversion Dam to the Una <br />Bridge (RK 312.2-349.0) in the Colorado River using electrofishing, seine, and <br />trammel nets. Sampling was also conducted on Highline Lake. All fish collected <br />were identified to species, counted, and measured. <br /> <br />Job 8. Title: Colorado squawfish sportfishery in Kenney Reservoir <br /> <br />The approach to this study was to assign another graduate student to fo1low- <br />up the objectives and methods described in Trammell (1990). Tasks outlined for <br />work on Kenney Reservoir were: <br /> <br />1) To conduct follow-up investigations of residence, growth, food habits, <br />and species associations of Colorado squawfish stocked in Kenney <br />Reservoir in 1988-90; <br />2) Monitor escapement of Colorado squawfish into the White River above and <br />below Kenney Reservoir; <br />3) Evaluate catch and acceptance of Colorado squawfish by anglers in Kenney <br />Reservoir and the adjacent White River. <br /> <br />Results of Trammell (1990) demonstrated most of the young Colorado squawfish <br />stocked in the reservoir left the study area in a relatively short time after <br />release. This situation permitted little opportunity to complete tasks (1) and <br />(3) above. Sampling in 1991 thus became primarily an effort to determine if <br />Colorado squawfish still inhabited the reservoir. The study area included the <br />reservoir and the White River from approximately 3.2 km above the reservoir and <br />48 km below the reservoir. Sampling in the reservoir was conducted with boat- <br />mounted e1ectrofishing equipment, trammel nets, and beach seines. Trammel nets <br />and beach seines were used to sample all backwater habitats in the White River. <br />Sampling was conducted in May and July 1991. A planned August trip was canceled <br />due to manpower limitations. <br /> <br />STUDY AREA <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The river basins in the northwest corner of Colorado comprised the study area <br />within Colorado for most of the above jobs (Fig. 1). Field sampling for Jobs 1 <br />and 2 included most of the Yampa River from Hayden downstream to the Green River <br />confluence, and the Colorado River from Palisade to Westwater Canyon in Utah. <br />Radiotracking in Job 3 was conducted on the Yampa River from approximately river <br />kilometer (RK) 275 to RK 0 (confluence).. Standardized monitoring in Job 6 <br />included select reaches on the Yampa, White, and Colorado rivers for spring <br />sampling; and select reaches on the Colorado River only for fall sampling. <br />
