Colorado squawfish were sampled exclusively in spring backwater and fall-
summer pool-eddy habitats only l4 and 25% of the time, respectively. Northern
pike were sampled exclusively in backwater and pool-eddy habitats only 18 and
20% of the time, respectively. Channel catfish were never sampled exclusively
in these habitats. Per sampling site, the largest numbers of Colorado
squawfish were captured at the backwaters at Morgan Gulch (RM 103.4 in the
Juniper Springs reach) and Spring Gulch (RM 81.6 in the Maybe1l reach), and at
pools at RM 101.3 and 80.6. Northern pike were sampled in the greatest
numbers at the backwaters at Lay Creek (RM 88.2 in the Maybell reach) and the
Little Snake River (RM 51.5 in the Lilly Park reach), and at pools at Wheeler
Bend (RM 53.4 in the Lilly Park reach), RM 85.5, and above Lay Creek (RM 88.7
in the Maybe11 reach). It can be seen that none of these sites coincide for
both species.

32
