Each sample

comprised 20 larvae randomly dipnetted from each tank. Of these, 10 were frozen in

water for lipids and otoliths and the others were formalin preserved for morphology and

histology. Water volume was reduced in tanks as larvae were removed to maintain

constant ratios of larvae to ration. Experiments were terminated in 4 to 6 weeks when all

larvae from one feeding level (typically Starved) were depleted.

~~~~
I
II
r
t
"
r
'~
