.

40.691 transmitter and that the 40.600 transmitter was received on both channel
. one and channel six. Also, the SR-40 was considerably less sensitive than the
RF-40.

.

.

.

.

.

.

.

II

.

JUNE 1 THROUGH 9 -PHASE IV CONTINUED
. On June 1, testing of the SR-40 receiver from the airplane, in conjunction
with the whip antenna mounted on the bottom of the plane, was conducted at
Jensen using two tags, one held in three feet of water and the other on the bank.
The tag in the water was easily located from the airplane, even when the flight
path was 200 yards lateral to the tag. The tag left on the ground was not lo-
cated at all. This suggested that tag signal strength was extremely variable and
that strong signals could be easily picked up from the air.
Also on June 1, the SR-40 receiver was used from the airplane to survey the
primary study area. After flying from Brush Creek, above Jensen, down to Sand
Wash, a distance of 89 miles, only one fish was located. This fish was tagged
at Ashley Creek, number 40.670, and it was received on channel nine of the SR-40.
June 2 through 4 were spent in an attempt to locate the four remaining fish
released in the Ouray area using boat-mounted equipment. Several trips from 12
miles above Ouray down to Sand Wash were made with negative results. During this
period, several hours were spent monitoring the activities of fish number 40.670.
June 6 through 8 were spent searching a 38-mile section of the secondary
study area using the SR-40 and RF-40 receivers. Neither of the two fish re-
leased in this area could be located.
On June 9, another plane flight was made using the SR-40 receiver. The
flight began at Jensen, Utah, and continued on to the confluence of the Green and
Colorado rivers. The flight was continuous, with the exception of a section of
Lower Desolation and Gray canyons. No fish were located.

12
