<br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br />I <br /> <br />5 <br /> <br />Echo Park (65 MBD) <br />This station begins just below the mouth of the Yampa River. <br />The integrity (individual nature of the water) of both rivers <br />is preserved (i.e., limited mixing) for over a mile below their <br />juncture. Habitat is very diverse in this station, with <br />riff 1 es, poo 1 s, edd i es, and backwaters all common. Also, Poo 1 <br />Creek, a small, permanent, clear stream enters the Green River <br />in this station. Substrate is nearly 50% cobble-rubble and 45% <br />sand, wi th 5% silt along the shores and in backwaters. The <br />station is 1.0 mile long. <br />Island Park (78 MBD) <br />The river breaks out of Whirlpool Canyon to form this area. <br />Velocity is slower than in the canyon area, with 70% of the <br />substrate composed of sand, 25% of cobble-rubble, and 5% silt. <br />Much of the station is braided with sand islands in low water, <br />although long riffles are found in the upper portion. Habitat <br />is diverse, with an abundance of riffles, runs, backwaters, and <br />eddies. The station is 1.0 mile long. <br />Jensen (110 MBD) <br />This station is located below the U.S. Highway 40 bridge and, <br />similar to Lodore, has a 100% sand bottom. Habitat is not very <br />diverse, with runs predominating, especially in high water. <br />Backwaters around sand islands are common in low flows. Ashley <br />Creek, a permanent, highly saline irrigation return stream <br />enters this station, as does a drain from Stewart Lake, a <br /> <br />-5- <br />
