particular regions. The established convention of recognizing
"Upper Basin" and "Lower Basin" portions of the Colorado River
drainage as divided by Glen Canyon Dam, Arizona, is followed.
References are subdivided to the degree possible but are
necessarily listed under drainage headings sufficiently inclusive
to encompass all subbasins treated. The annotated reference
sections are followed by an alphabetical (by author) listing of
all references surveyed and species indexes keyed separately to
taxonomic and distributional references.
Section 2 is straightforward in content. Section 3 includes
the results of surveys of Gila collection holdings at 26
institutions, seven of which were visited by the Project Manager.
It is intended to facilitate the acquisition of specific material
needed for various aspects of the upcoming taxonomic study by
those investigators who are selected to participate in research
and to provide information on where alternative material might be
located in the event of nonavailabilty from any particular
institution.
Copies of this report are to be distributed to interested
parties, including current and potential researchers on
Colorado River basin Gila and concerned management agencies. It
is available from the Project Manager or the U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service, Denver (see cover page).
